My Journey to Health: Overcoming Hashimoto’s and Regaining Wellness
I've always been a really active person, and I've run.
A couple marathons and done.
Triathlons, and I'm a physical.
Therapist, so health has been very important to me.
However, about three years ago, I developed.
A hypothyroid condition called Hashimoto's disease.
And over the course of those three years, I gained a.
Lot of weight and just really did not feel well.
And unfortunately, just traditional medication was.
Not working well for me.
And so I started looking for other options.
I would say at other doctors' offices.
You know, the medication that I was on for.
My thyroid was making my blood look fine.
My blood looked fine, but I didn't feel.
Good, and I had gained about 35 pounds.
And when I would ask about why did.
I gain the weight, there were no answers.
And it was just, keep taking.
Your medicine, keep taking your medicine.
Your thyroid's fine, your blood's fine.
And so I kind of felt ignored, I guess, and.
I had to take my health into my own hands.
And I did a lot of research online.
And luckily my midwife and I agreed that.
Functional medicine was the way to go.
So I'm about four months under.
Care, and I'm very encouraged.
I've lost all the weight that I.
Gained, and I feel like myself again.
And I just feel a lot of freedom, actually, in.
The ability to make good food choices and to be.
Putting things in my body that are nutritious.
Overall.
It's just really nice to be at a place where.
I don't feel like food cravings control my life.
I just feel like I eat to fuel my body.
And I eat the things that are nutritious, and I.
Don't feel like I'm controlled by cravings of sugary foods.
And just overall feel a clarity, just about even decision.
Making and just being able to wake up better in.
The morning and go to sleep better at night.
I would say do some research yourself, learn yourself.
Learn what's going on with you, and then come.
In and have your meeting and learn even more.
About yourself and just be your own advocate and.
Just really fight for health.
And just because there's certain patterns out there.
Medical patterns and nutrition patterns and things that.
Are going on in our culture, it doesn't.
Mean that they're the right pattern.
And so don't be afraid to just look outside the box.
And see what else is out there, and you're not gonna.
Go wrong by doing something good for your health, and you're.
Gonna really thank yourself years down the road.
