What is Adrenal Fatigue?

The adrenal glands are responsible for cortisol, DHEA, aldosterone, and adrenaline production. These hormones help you adapt to the demands of everyday life, and help the body function in times of intense stress. But stress levels are reaching an epidemic proportion due to our fast-paced lifestyle. In addition to lifestyle-induced stress, chronic stress can be triggered by:

  • Dysbiosis (bacterial imbalance in the gut)
  • Food sensitivities
  • Chemical sensitivies
  • Chronic pain
  • Blood sugar issues (reactive hypoglycemia and diabetes)
  • Poor relationships

All of these stressors cause the adrenal glands to work overtime. Adrenal fatigue occurs when the adrenal glands simply can’t keep up with the demand for hormones. Under chronic stress, all systems that are required for rest, repair, and digestion shut down.
